Trees in white dresses
and burnt orange accessories,
stillness all around.
December dawns tremulously
with nips, chills, drizzles and
that brings the smile of a six-year old
to this newly-lined face.
softly padding the ground
white-tipping the picket fence
crowning last summer’s bird’s nest;
a fresh reminder of light
in the darkest season.
It traces a remembrance
of first winter, first snowman
an abundance of powder, frost-nipped
fingers and red-cheeked adventures
the echo of giggles rending the air,
evoking a primal pull to the outdoors
for first footprints
renewal in the making.
